ELIZA!
A bit of digital archaeology… Does the name ELIZA ring a bell? Older computer users probably remember it – it was a program that simulated a psychoanalyst. Nowadays, with LLMs known as artificial intelligence, its capabilities are certainly not impressive. However, at the time, it sparked conversations about the future and the direction in which development would go. Because its existence entered the public consciousness, it was an important event in the history of computer science.
However, to this day (since the 1960s when it was created), no one has seen it in action. It was lost. Until now. One of its versions was found in the MIT archives. You can see the program code (shorter than you think) and also try how it worked in an emulator on the website.
